Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari has cemented her position in the industry as one of the most unique storytellers in the business today having delivered films like ‘Nil Battey Sannata’, ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and ‘Panga’. And now the director is all set to bring to the big screen, the story of one of first well-known duos of Hindi cinema, Devika Rani and Himanshu Rai.
The extremely beautiful Devika Rani was called ‘First Lady of Indian cinema’ by her fans; her husband Himanshu Rai, on the other hand was one of the pioneers of Indian cinema, an actor par excellence, a star and an astute businessman. In 1934, the duo went on to set up Bombay Talkies, India’s first professional film studio that dominated cinema in India for a decade. Talks about his film have been going for a while, and now Ashwiny has tied up with a big Indian studio for this project. The film shall go on floors in the near future, for now the project is still in the scripting stage.
It will be interesting to watch the real life story of this couple, who were responsible for giving Indian cinema legendary creative artists like Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari, Ashok Kumar and more. Audiences recently saw a glimpse of the golden age of Indian cinema in the OTT show Jubilee, which many believe is inspired by the times of Bombay Talkies, Himanshu Rai and Devika Rani’s erstwhile studio.
